3 Tips To Keep In Mind When Buying A New Mattress

Your bed's mattress is probably not something you spend a lot of time thinking about until something goes wrong. If your mattress is starting to show its age and is no longer comfortable to sleep on, it's time to head to the local furniture store and find a replacement. But a mattress is not a cheap investment and, ideally, a new mattress should last for many years before you have to head back to the store. To make sure you get it right and get a great night's sleep for the foreseeable future, keep these three tips in mind.

Test Drive As Much As Possible in the Store

Most mattress stores will allow you to jump right up on the floor model in the store. While you might have been fine with the type of mattress you've used most recently, don't limit yourself at the start of your search. Your body and personal preferences might have changed over the years. Try a firm mattress, a soft mattress, a foam mattress and so on.

Inquire About A Comfort Guarantee

The exact policies will vary by state, but some states allow mattress manufacturers to offer what's called a comfort guarantee. What this means is that you are allowed to take the mattress home and sleep on it for an extended period of time, usually at least 30 days. If you are unhappy with the experience at the end of the trial period, you can still return it to the store even though you've been sleeping on it. Make sure you understand the fine print on this guarantee for whatever store you are buying from.

Adjustable is a Great Option for Couples

If it's been a while since you've been in a furniture store, you might be surprised at how mattress technology has advanced in recent years. One option you might want to consider if you are married or regularly sleep with a significant other is an adjustable bed and/or mattress. It's possible today to get a mattress with both his and her settings. The mattress can increase or decrease the softness on each side of the bed, guaranteeing that both you and your partner can get the mattress that fits you best.

If it's about time you purchased a new mattress, head to a furniture store that specializes in mattresses and other bedding items. Don't be afraid to try different types of mattresses while you are in the store and always get the store's comfort guarantee in writing. Ask the salesperson about the latest technology, such as adjustable mattresses. Contact your local furniture store for more information.
